WEKO’s non-contact functionalising of film surfaces at the K 2016
Weitmann & Konrad GmbH & Co (WEKO) presented the non-contact application system for surface coating of film webs to the film industry at the K show in Düsseldorf. The intelligent alternative to using batch additives offers clear cost and quality advantages, rousing the interest of the visitors.
“Don’t play – work with precision!” – For WEKO this motto refers to a high-precision fluid application system, which applies the functionalisation fluids in exactly measurable and minimum quantities, contactless and with precision, to the film webs.
The machine-building company from Southern Germany took initial positive stock half way through the K. Markus Klempin, product manager at WEKO, reported: “The number of interested visitors was much higher than we had dared to hope for. From the USA to Europe (France, Italy, Turkey) and on to India and China, both premium film manufacturers and rather cost-conscious producers for the food and non-food sector – complemented by manufacturers of technical and medical film products – came to meet us. Several very promising enquiries were presented to us by US converters. We realised that our new customers are involved in global dimensions and that our international sales and service network is the absolute right match for their needs.”
The majority of enquiries came from the sector of applications with silicon-containing emulsions for film finishing with anti-blocking function. Thanks to the minimum and very exact application of anti-blocking agents uniform and high-quality plastic trays are produced. At the same time, the deep-drawing process represents cost benefits by increasing the cycle rates, reducing downtimes and minimising the release agents used.
