New English whisky label projects style, thanks to The Label Makers

Leading label manufacturer, The Label Makers has recently worked with Oswestry-based distillers – the Henstone Distillery – to produce labels for the launch of its award-winning single malt whisky.

Distilling small batch whisky, gin, vodka and apple brandy in a 1,000 litre Kothe still, Henstone began whisky production soon after their still was installed in November 2017 and, having being aged in a mixture of ex-bourbon, Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez casks, the first batch was released early this year. The Label Makers was asked to apply its expertise in creating the new labels – the distiller had already worked with The Label Makers on previous gin and vodka releases and had been, “impressed by the fantastic service and quality of product”.

In producing the labels, The Label Makers looked to retain the style and shape found across the existing spirits range. Being digitally printed on a rich textured cotton material, gave the labels both a warmth and luxurious feel. Gold hot foil detailing was added to enhance the product’s special provenance, along with flashes of high gloss varnish which create additional interest when caught in the light. The label design was by Stirling-based Pocket Rocket Creative.

“The family of products look great side by side and the whisky label, being darker, really looks the part,” said Henstone Distillery co-founder and director Chris Toller. “I really cannot fault The Label Makers – their service, delivery timescales, quality and consistency are hard to beat and from the start of this project there has been no issues whatsoever. We have more projects in the pipeline and The Label Makers will definitely be part of our plans going forward.”

The Label Makers’ Kevin Lyons added: “It really is fantastic to see English whisky enjoying some prominence and we are delighted to work with Chris and Henstone team in producing their labels. We are aligned to their requirements and very much look forward to their future successes.”

Hentsone Distillery’s single malt whisky recently won a silver medal in the International Spirits Challenge 2021, the most authoritative, respected and influential spirits competition in the world.
