Multi-national installs third KPG tube press in 18 months
A leading world producer of personal and home care products has recently installed its third Euroflex tube press for printing tube barrier laminates. With the presses installed at different locations, the printed laminates are formed into tubes for an extensive range of oral care products.
With all three presses being fully automatic and operating 24 hours/day, reliability and consistently met production standards including minimal downtime and waste are key factors. The 260mm press is specified with six-UV flexo colours on a steel chilled 1000mm diameter central impression drum plus varnish with a rotary screen unit providing an additional colour.
The 400mm utilises a 1800mm diameter central impression drum with seven colours and the opportunity to fit an eighth print unit at a later date. For easy access a flexo varnish module is adjacent to the CID and the press design allows for a rotary screen unit to be fitted to meet future production requirements. For non-stop production both versions are fitted with a Martin Automatic butt splicer (MBS) and automatic transfer rewinder (LRD). With an integrated slitter, the web can be split into four ribbons. Based on a design concept of central impression drum with gear driven nip roller, pin-point print registration, consistent web tension control and high print quality are assured.
Built from cast iron, (150mm base/100mm side frames), the robust construction virtually eliminates any vibration even when operating at speeds of up to 100m/min. The Euroflex is fitted with a servo controlled expansion roller for use with ABL materials while an elongated web path ensures efficient flow-out of varnish.
Further features include AC servo infeed/outfeed, corona treater and web cleaner, two chill rollers with chiller unit, BST web guiding system and GEW UV curing system. In addition to ABL and PBL laminates, the Euroflex tube press can also be used for printing films and with the addition of a rotary die-cutting unit and waste rewind is ideal for label production.
