Edelmann expands with acquisitions
The acquisition of two new sites and the expansion of existing business saw the Edelmann Group achieve growth of 22% in FY 2011.
The producer of quality packaging and system solutions from board and paper generated sales of 230 million euros.
The acquisition of leaflet specialist Lindauer Druckerei (Germany) and Hungarian packaging producer Zalai Nyomda at the start of 2011 led to a new distribution of sales within the Group. The share of sales generated abroad with folding cartons and leaflets grew from 44 to 48%.
Last year the company invested around 14 million euros in the national and international expansion of production to ensure it can process global packaging orders for its mainly internationally active customers according to its High Q Packaging quality standard.
These investments ensured that Edelmann was able to further expand its international business, posting rising sales at its plants in Poland, France, Mexico, Hungary and China; the German plants also produced additional international orders.
“The structural changes have given us the foundation to secure a stable position in a continually changing market,” explains managing director Dierk Schröder. “The folding carton sector continues to be marked by over-capacity and increasing concentration. The growing pressure of competition is matched by rising customer requirements with regard to system solutions, smaller batches, shorter delivery times and process services such as vendor management inventory.”
