BST eltromat at LABELEXPO EUROPE: Successful Participation with Numerous Highlights
Large crowds at BST eltromat International at LABELEXPO EUROPE 2017 in Brussels. Numerous customers and interested visitors found the way to the booth of BST eltromat International in hall 6. The manufacturer of quality assurance systems for web-processing industries can look back on its most successful participation at a LABELEXPO EUROPE. Particularly in demand were web guiding and web monitoring systems, which are suitable for the narrow web market. But also the solutions of packaging printing from BST eltromat, such as the iPQ-Center, developed into a public magnet. Another highlight was the cooperation with Nyquist Systems for 100% inspection systems for the narrow web and the cooperation with Carl Ostermann Erben, Colorware and Colorbreeze in the field of color.

Color – a complex topic: We make it easier for Printers
“The hype surrounding Industry 4.0 and the data collected in the printing process is continuously increasing”, says Dr. Christopher Kauczor, Product Manager for color measurement at BST eltromat. “We want to help printers and machine operators to transmit this data through the various process steps, to enrich it, and ultimately to interpret it in an intelligent way for the production process.” Together with our partners Carl Ostermann Erben (full-service provider for pre-press and printing plate production), Colorware (manufacturer of color management software), and Colorbreeze (specialists in the optimization of graphic processes) BST eltromat presented the advantages of a consistent combination of process steps, from the pre-press stage through the quality assurance systems to product analyses with informative reports. Using simple examples, BST eltromat showed at Labelexpo Europe how preparatory functions of the pre-press stage can be used in the subsequent process steps, how machine operators receive recommendations for action from the quality assurance systems during the printing process, and how they benefit from the wealth of information available in the collected data. The holistic view on the production process and the simplified set-up of the quality assurance systems also leads to remarkable cost savings.
Special Highlight in the field of Web Guiding
The new ekr commander for the ekr 500 digital controller was a special highlight at Labelexpo Europe. Under the motto “Touch it!” the company presented the new ekr commander, with intuitive operation and a completely revised hardware. The new software with a higher-resolution graphical display and the flexible touchscreen of the new ekr commander offers maximum operating convenience. The new system provides support in all the areas where it makes sense to use a touchscreen – during setup or for direct data input, for example. Its keys feature “tactical feedback” to prevent incorrect operation. The new ekr commander is 100% downward compatible. In machines that already operate with ekr 500 digital controllers, it can replace the current commanders at any time. For web guiding systems installed in machines, customers can connect an optional, second ekr commander.
From Small to Large – the Whole Range of Web Monitoring and 100% Inspection
After the market launch at drupa last year, the POWERScope 5000 web monitoring system, was presented this year for the first time at a LABELEXPO EUROPE. This system is perfect for use in the narrow web market. POWERScope 5000 features an extremely high level of operating convenience. It can be operated via the hotkeys of the external keyboard or using the intuitive gesture control of a multitouch monitor. In both cases, operation is reduced to the essential functions, providing maximum user-friendliness. The web monitoring system also features a wear-free electronic zoom and outstanding image quality thanks to the high-resolution digital camera and LED flash.
With partner Nyquist Systems, BST eltromat presented the TubeScan portfolio on two booths. BST eltromat showed the TubeScan eagle view, which combines 100% print inspection with web monitoring, to enable seamless printing error monitoring. With the new QLink Workflow, Nyquist Systems has expanded its TubeScan product portfolio and has concentrated on synchronization, data handling and error editing. Nyquist Systems developed this solution for customers who use the TubeScan system on print and cutting machines in parallel. With QLink, TubeScan systems can be used for the automatic control of cutting machines and stand-alone 100% inspection systems.
At the most important exhibition for label printing, the modular iPQ-Center from BST eltromat could not be missing. With its four modules – iPQ-Check for 100% inspection, iPQ-View for web monitoring, iPQ-Spectral for inline spectral color measurement and iPQ-Workflow as the connective element – this high-end solution can cover special customer requirements for quality assurance in narrow-web processes such as label printing. For example, iPQ-Check works with the illumination that BST eltromat specially developed for reflecting materials – a unique performance characteristic. With iPQ-Spectral, label printers can ensure that the color values of printed labels consistently meet customer specifications perfectly. And iPQ-Center is open for the production-supporting solutions of other manufacturers.
